Dr. Collins, the founder and Medical Director of The Center for Eye Care and Optical graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1974 and served his residency in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmologic Surgery here on Long Island at the Nassau University Medical Center.
I derive a great deal of satisfaction from the practice of Ophthalmology. From the day-to-day interactions with my patients to the challenges of ophthalmic surgery, there is always a deep and abiding sense of accomplishment.
Dr. Collins was Board Certified in 1978 and is the Editor/Author of Handbook of Clinical Ophthalmology and The Ophthalmic Desk Reference, textbooks for other eye doctors and Your Eyes: An Owner's Guide, a manual for the general public.
Dr. Collins is a Clinical Instructor at Stonybrook University Medical Center and the U.S. Veterans Affairs Hospital in Northport where he teaches eye surgery to resident doctors in training.
He is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Scientist at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, an Affiliate of Harvard Medical School. He is a member of the New York State Ophthalmologic Society, The American Academy of Ophthalmology, The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Collins' current main interests include complex cataract surgery and clinical research and development involving new ophthalmic devices.
Gregory C. Persak, M.D. | Associate Medical Director

Doctor Gregory Persak, M.D. obtained his B.A. from Boston University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He attended Boston University Medical School and completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Ophthalmology is the perfect combination of medicine and surgery and the old with the new. Most importantly, it provides me with the satisfaction of making a difference in a person's life. A patient's 'thank you' after a successful eye surgery makes all the years of training worth it.
Doctor Persak is a board certified Ophthalmologist with more than 20 years experience having preformed thousands of ophthalmologic microsurgeries. He has served on the faculty at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and is currently on staff at Good Samaritan Hospital and Southside Hospital.
In addition to being the Medical Director at the Long Island Surgicenter, Dr. Persak is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Among the numerous professional societies and organizations that Dr. Persak is a member of are: American Academy of Ophthalmology | New York State Ophthalmogical Society | Suffolk County Ophthalmogical Society | American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery | American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Persak is a member of the Lions Club and regularly participates in ophthalmic medical missions in Ecuador and the Dominican Republic providing ophthalmic surgery to the poor and he has been recognized by the presidents of both countries for his service.
N. Gila Zilkha, M.D.

Dr. Zilkha received a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and graduated magna cum laude from Duke University in 1989. She received her M.D. (1993) from New York University School of Medicine.
Ophthalmology is the most gratifying medical field as I am able to treat patients with whom I can directly relate. Having diabetes myself has allowed me to gain a more profound understanding for the concerns of my patients and the impact of diabetes on their daily lives.
Dr. Zilkha completed her internship and residency in ophthalmology at New York University-Bellevue Medical Center. She continued with an advanced fellowship in medical retina at NYU Medical Center (1997). Dr. Zilkha is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
The Consumer Research Council of America named her one of America 's Top Ophthalmologists. She was also featured on the cover of Diabetes Positive! Magazine. Dr. Zilkha has extensive experience in retinal laser surgery, primarily in the treatment of diabetes. Dr. Zilkha has been named as a Research Partner for her commitment and support in the fight to cure diabetes with the American Diabetes Association.
Michelle E. Liebert, M.D.

Dr. Liebert brings to The Center for Eye Care and Optical a love of children and a thorough knowledge of the medical and surgical treatment unique to this special population.
Andrew N. Bainnson, M.D., F.A.A.O
Glaucoma & General Opthalmology
Dr. Bainnson is a Board Certified Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology specializing in Glaucoma and General Ophthalmology.
Ophthalmology provides me ample opportunities to enrich the lives of my patients. Whether it is as simple as determining that first pair of perfect glasses, controlling their glaucoma, or even detecting a life threatening condition I know that I can make a measurable difference every day. He specifically specializes in the medical and laser treatment and diagnosis of glaucoma as well as the treatment of most ophthalmologic conditions including diabetes, macular degeneration, ocular trauma, cataracts and pediatrics.
Dr. Bainnson received a Bachelors Degree with Honors from the University of Michigan in 1986. He is a graduate of SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, (Downstate), and completed a residency at NY Medical college in 1994 where he was Chief Resident in his final year.
Following residency he completed a fellowship in Glaucoma and Anterior Segment at the Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan. Dr. Bainnson is a Long Island native having grown up in Plainview. He now resides in Dix Hills with his wife and two children.
He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The New York State Ophthalmology Society and the Suffolk County Ophthalmology Society.
George F. Wollman, O.D.
Optometrist
Patients now have more options for their vision correction. As part of a team that can provide all forms of correction from eyeglasses to contact lenses to eye surgery, my goal is to fully explain all options in terms that a patient can easily understand. As a result, anxiety is reduced and visual comfort is improved.
Dr. George Wollman received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Fordham University in 1976 and graduated with honors from the New England College of Optometry in 1981.
He has served as Director of Optometry for Mobile Health Services in The Hudson Valley and is currently specializing in advanced contact lens fitting.
In addition to his professional achievements, he also was a contributory author of the Ophthalmic Desk Reference.
Dr. Wollman brings his wealth of knowledge and experience to the staff of The Center for Eye Care and Optical.
Todd H. Lustig, O.D.
Optometrist
Being an Optometrist allows me to be the gatekeeper of my patients' eye health. I enjoy being able to treat different kinds of patients, from young children to our senior citizens-each a unique experience.
Dr. Todd H. Lustig received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Emory University in 1991. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry in 1995. Dr. Lustig served his externship at the VA Hospital in Northport, Long Island , NY . Dr. Lustig is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Nassau County Optometric Association.
He is Board Certified to use all diagnostic and therapeutic agents to diagnose and treat eye problems, including eyeglasses, contact lenses and eye medications. Through these methods, he is able to offer his patients complete eye care.
Kristin Protosow, O.D., F.A.A.O
Optometrist
Optometry, particularly working with partially sighted patients, is about problem solving. This can be difficult at times but nothing gives me a greater sense of accomplishment then helping someone regain some of their independence.
Dr. Kristin Protosow received her Bachelor's in biology at St. Joseph's College on Long Island and her doctorate of optometry from New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA.
Upon graduating she completed a residency at the West Haven VA Hospital in Connecticut, the largest veteran's blind center in the northeast. The hospital at West Haven commonly takes on the most severe low vision patients, giving them complete low vision evaluations, exams and rehabilitation classes. Besides low vision, her training included working with patients who have advanced ocular disease. At the hospital she worked closely with retinal, corneal, cataract, glaucoma and oculoplastic ophthalmic specialists. Dr. Protosow continued to work at West Haven after her residency was complete until moving back home to Long Island last year.
Dr. Protosow is licensed to practice therapeutic primary care optometry. She is also certified to practice low vision in the state of New York, and enjoys continuing to work with the partially sighted and legally blind in private practice.
She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the New York Suffolk Optometric Association and has completed a fellowship with the American Academy of Optometry in 2009.
Alexander Rabinovich, M.D.
Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon
Dr. Rabinovich is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in surgery of the eyelids, orbit and lacrimal system, as well as facial cosmetic surgery and cosmetic injections of Botox and facial fillers.
Dr. Rabinovich graduated with honors from Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and received his Medical Doctorate degree from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He did his surgical transitional year at Flushing Medical Center and then completed his ophthalmology residency training at St.Luke's-Roosevelt Hospitals in NYC where he served as a chief resident in his last year of training. He then completed his Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at Boston Medical Center in Boston, MA.
Dr. Rabinovich is a member of American Academy of Ophthalmology and has presented his clinical research at various ophthalmological meetings. He is also presently involved in resident education at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
